I am joining Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tomorrow to officially and publicly endorse a true hero of the people, Senator Bernie Sanders, as our next President of the United States! I have supported Bernie for over 30 years. I spoke at his rally in Burlington, VT, when he first ran for Congress. I will speak again tomorrow for him at his “Bernie Is Back!” rally at 1pm in Queensbridge Park in New York City. Everyone is welcome! Everyone who cares about the true direction this country must head in post-Trump should be there if you are within a drive or train ride from NYC. There are many good Democratic candidates running. Every poll shows the top five of them beating Trump in a head-to-head contest. We are all going to vote for whoever wins the nomination. So in the primaries and caucuses, let’s all vote for the candidate who most shares what each of us believes in. For me, that’s Bernie! Because we must not only defeat Trump, we must defeat the rotten system that gave us Trump. I’ll see you tomorrow!5 days agoDownload
My film, the 2002 Oscar-winning “Bowling for Columbine”, will have a special nationwide screening tomorrow night (Saturday) at 9pm ET on MSNBC... This still is from the opening scene when I answered an ad in a Michigan newspaper to stop and take advantage of a new offer by the local bank: “If You Open a Bank Account at North Country Bank, You Get a Free Gun!”5 days agoDownload
I just like looking at this every hour or so.6 days agoDownload
This Saturday night, my film, “Bowling for Columbine”, will air as a prime time special on MSNBC at 9pm ET. Invite friends over to watch - a good reason to gather together after this crazy, sad week. A chance to plan your political actions with each other for the coming year. We must win. We can definitely win on gun control - nearly 90% of the country wants it! 78% of Americans DO NOT OWN A GUN! Just 3% of the country owns and hordes HALF of all the guns! And THEY are the ones politicians are trying to please? ENOUGH! Tune in Saturday night.6 days agoDownload
One of the great members of Congress in my lifetime passed away this morning — Elijah Cummings, Democrat of Maryland. He was a fighter for those who weren’t allowed a seat at the table. A strong, powerful voice for the voiceless. He was always willing to give of his time for me, offer his guidance, tell me what was really going on in ways few others would. When he agreed to be in my film, “Capitalism: A Love Story,” he pulled no punches about the Crash of ‘08 when Congress bailed out the banks and Wall Street but let millions of families lose their savings and be evicted from their homes. He told me it was all a ruse, a giant robbery of the American people. “The word that we got in Congress was that if we didn’t act ‘immediately’ the ‘whole economy would collapse - no doubt about it.’ This whole fiasco shows you there’s some powerful forces (that are not democratic) that are in control here in this building — big time.” His point was that it was the top one-percent who owned the politicians and the government — and that we’d never be a true democracy until ‘we the people’ controlled the economy. Elijah Cummings was the real deal — authentic to his core, honest to a fault, and a peoples’ representative in the truest sense of the word. I am stunned and saddened by his death. He couldn’t have been taken from us at a worse time. Much love and gratitude to his family. We will all honor him best by carrying on his work with our own passion and an unrelenting commitment to real justice and equality. Rest In peace, my friend. We, though, will not, until your work - our work - is done.6 days agoDownload
