“It’s important for me to #ShareBlackStories because I don’t feel that positive Black stories get shared enough!” says drag artist, performer and advocate Shea Couleé. “I feel like in 2020, celebrating my Blackness is just being unapologetic in my Blackness.”⁣ ⁣ Shea came up in the Chicago drag scene and even competed on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” “It’s fun to be able to go and create your own persona and your own rules and your own world onstage for three to five minutes,” says Shea. “I am a Black, gay drag queen who makes my living doing what I love.”⁣ ⁣ This Black History Month, we’ve partnered with @bet to #ShareBlackStories and support #Advocates doing amazing work on Instagram and beyond. New episodes drop every Tuesday in February. 🖤

Lolo Zouaï (@lolozouai) writes heartfelt music that embraces the highs and the lows. “I talk about feeling disconnected from my dad’s Algerian roots, and I think a lot of people have related to that,” says the artist, who grew up in San Francisco. “My music is just about feeling what you’re feeling and acknowledging it.”⁣
⁣
When Lolo’s breakout track “High Highs to Low Lows” went viral, a global community sprang up around the artist. “It’s not a superficial community, it’s real feelings and real stories,” says the 24-year-old. “I value it.” 💞⁣

At 6’5” and with a fierce sense of style, lifelong class clown Denzel Dion (@denzeldion) can’t help but stand out. “I was always the big kid in class and it just made me feel like an outsider, so I cracked jokes to distract from my size,” says the 21-year-old professional prankster, who’s also famous for his viral videos, namely his hilarious celebrity commentaries. “The message I hope to share is that you can be yourself. You have a voice and should never mute it or dim your light just to please others.” 🌟 ⁣

Aggie Nam’s (@3217_3217_3217) sculptural eyewear transforms ordinary spectacles into something spectacular. “Think of it as a facial accessory or decoration,” says Aggie of her wild, nonfunctional creations.⁣

The Korean designer of @godsomware makes everything by hand, often incorporating everyday objects like earrings and scissors in unexpected ways. “Sometimes ideas suddenly pop into my head and when it happens, I don’t hesitate and get straight to work,” says Aggie. “Some take me as little as 10 minutes to make and others can keep me up working all night long. My work is more about quantity than quality.” 👀💥⁣

Melati Wijsen founded Bye Bye Plastic Bags (@byebyeplasticbags) with younger sister Isabel when they were just 10 and 12 years old. Their fight against plastic pollution paid off last June when plastic bags, straws and Styrofoam were banned in Bali, where they live. “Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago with only ocean separating our 17,000 islands,” says Melati, now 18. “And yet we are the world’s second-largest source of marine plastic pollution. Plastic is everywhere.” ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Now with Youthtopia, a peer-to-peer education program, the activist is empowering more young people to fight for the causes they believe in. “If not us, then who?” she says. “If not now, then when?” ✊🏼🌈 ⁣⁣

Alyssa Carson (@nasablueberry) isn’t just heading for big things — she’s heading straight for Mars. The 18-year-old is prepping for the first mission to the red planet as part of space academy @project_possum, a NASA-supported program for citizen scientists, making her the youngest-ever trainee astronaut.⁣
⁣
“Colonization may not happen in my lifetime, but the beginning definitely will,” she says. “I hope to inspire other kids to follow their dreams, because it definitely doesn’t get much crazier than what I’m doing.” 🚀☄️⁣
