I have the hardest time finding ones that are high in protein and low in sugar without any dairy.  This is #notsponsored but @silk plain soy yogurt has some of the best nutritional facts and I can find it at my local grocery store. jan 21 ♧ University of Geneva (UNIGE) researchers have discovered a new gene that causes blindness and cardiomyopathy. They have also managed to halt the progression of 👁 eye disease and treat cardiac disease by administering a food supplement.

The genome consists of 20,000 genes, all of which may be capable of triggering disease. It is estimated that there are 7,000 unknown genes that cause recessive genetic diseases resulting from mutations in two copies of a gene that have been inherited from each parent.

Researchers at the UNIGE have recently identified 45 new genes that cause blindness or cognitive problems. The scientists focused in particular on the SLC6A6 gene, which encodes a transporter protein that carries an amino acid essential for the functioning of the retina and cardiac muscle: taurine.

When there are pathogenic mutations of the SLC6A6 gene, an individual will suffer from a lack of taurine and will gradually lose his sight until he becomes blind within a few years and develops a weak heart.

The scientists speculated that it might be possible to block the progression of the disease by administering taurine. We gave 100 mg per kg of taurine daily to the children to be continued over the long-term.

The results quickly came about: in three days, the taurine levels in their blood jumped from 6 to 85 μ mol/l, reaching normal thresholds. And, after two years, the cardiomyopathy had completely disappeared in both children!

In addition, the degeneration in the girl's sight was brought to a halt, and there was even an improvement, meaning she could move around by herself.

Today, I’m screaming from the mountain tops about green smoothies. And this one right here has been my fave lately. So simple, only clean ingredients, and the flava flave is on point!

This recipe is in a cookbook gifted to me by my bestie @nicoooleyay called The Greenhouse Cookbook. So many gems in here, but the smoothie and juice recipes SHINE. (I’ll be sharing this one in my stories today!) I’ve expressed my love for the green stuff often because it keeps me thriving daily, but here are some important things to know about your relationship with greens while you’re warrioring through Adrenal Fatigue.

It’s no spoiler that you should be getting a variety of vegetables in your daily diet for maximum health. AF wants you to increase your intake, boo. We’re talking 6-8 servings a day of the brightly colored veg to get the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber that are essential to your hormone balance and overall body function.

Keep it interesting and vary the methods you use to cook and prep your veggies. Eat them raw, eat them steamed or cooked, and in smoothies-DUH! You’ll pull different nutrients through different ways of prepping and cooking (plus cut kitchen fatigue-this is a real thing, amirite?!) Plant foods like spinach and Swiss chard are hella rich in magnesium, the OG nurtitional “chill pill”. 🥙Easy GF Falafels and Arabic Salad🥙

Earler this week, Rob and I enjoyed making this delicious, plant based meal for our friend who joined us for dinner. I forgot how tasty Arabic food is! 🤤 So tasty, that I recreated it all over again the following day! 😄 The ingredients are super healthy, and we baked the falafels instead of frying them, which helps retain nutrients.

🍴Recipe🍴 (Serves 4)

🛒Ingredients
-
400g can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1/2 white onion, roughly chopped
2 cloves of garlic
1 handful of fresh coriander
1 handful of fresh parsley
1 tbsp cumin
1 tsp sumac
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp sea salt
Juice of 1 lemon
1/3 cup chickpea flour
2 tbsp tahini
2 tsp tbsp olive oil

4 large vine tomatoes, chopped into cubes
1 cucumber, chopped into cubes
1 red onion, chopped into cubes
1 handful of fresh parsley, finely chopped
1 handful of fresh mint, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
Juice of 1 lemon
2 tbsp olive oil

📝Method
-
1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Place chickpeas, onion and garlic into a food processor or blender. Process until the mixture is finely chopped (not mushy).

2. Add coriander, parsley, cumin, sumac, cayenne, pepper, salt and lemon juice. Process until everything is green and mixed in.

3. Add the chickpea flour and tahini, and process again until blended.

4. Place falafel mixture into a bowl and form round balls of about 2 inches diameter. Place carefully into an oven dish, and drizzle over the olive oil. Bake for 15 minutes, turn over, and bake for a further 15 minutes.

5. Meanwhile, prepare the salad by adding everything into a large bowl, and tossing together.

6. Serve the falafels and salad with toasted GF @bfreefoods pitta bread, @thepreciouspeahoumous and green olives.
