Common question: Is there a difference between a whole food, plant-based diet and a vegan diet?⁣

YES!⁣
⁣
To put it simply, a plant-based diet is focused on nutrient density, and a vegan diet is focused on the ethical aspect.⁣
⁣
Let me explain: A whole food, plant-based (WFPB) diet predominantly consists of plants, and emphasizes a large variety of whole foods. It doesn’t include any meat, poultry, fish, dairy, or eggs. ⁣
⁣
A vegan diet tends to only be defined by what it eliminates based on ethical reasons. ⁣
⁣
Can you be a whole food, plant-based vegan? Yes!⁣
⁣
By saying “whole” in WFPB, you are describing foods that are minimally processed. Examples include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, and avocados.⁣
⁣
Heavily processed foods are not included in a WFPB diet. This means avoiding refined grain products (white bread), foods containing added sugars/artificial sweeteners (high fructose corn syrup), and foods containing added fat.⁣
⁣
Ditch counting calories or carbs. Stick to the staples. Eat what you like. Save money. Experiment with all the different spices + herbs. This isn’t meant to be a short-term punishment. Instead, return to whole foods, endless flavors, and optimal health.⁣

The event focused on how a WFPB lifestyle can help you or someone you know prevent, manage, or even reverse chronic diseases. How amazing!⁣

Even more, I got to meet so many amazing people and leaders in this industry that are changing the world. Never in a million years did I think I would be in the same room, let alone having a conversation with people I have admired since day 1 of my plant-based journey. It was truly an honor to be among them! Can’t wait for the next one🤗⁣

It's crazy to think about the amount of people that want better for themselves, but don't know how or have trouble taking that first step. I see people every single day talking about being exhausted, needing more coffee, depressed/anxious, craving junk, feeling run down, or experiencing an excessive number of mystery symptoms. The problem is we don't value our health until we become too sick to continue to ignore it. Most people truly have no idea how amazing their body is designed to feel!✨⁣

Do you see it? Exhaustion, mood instability, stubborn cravings, feeling run down — these are warning signs to some deeper rooted issues. Your body talks, but the questions is: Are you listening?💆‍♀️ Please don't wait until it's screaming to pay attention.

This was my pre-flight fresh pressed juice before heading to our final flight home from Greece. I got one of my favorite combos - carrot, orange, apple, ginger😋 I was amazed that almost every single place we ate at offered fresh fruit/smoothies/juices + they were so refreshing! Most places where I live don't offer fresh smoothies and fresh-pressed juices as beverage options at typical restaurants. ⁣

Eat the rainbow. Drink water. Stretch. Practice self love. Breeeaaathe deeply. Repeat.✨ For some of us, maintaining a healthful, balanced lifestyle is easy-peasy. For others, not so much. Not everyone reaches for lemon water in the morning and probiotic-rich salads during lunch or dinner. For some of us, it’s a long, learning process that takes YEARS. Yup, that was me. ⁣
⁣
Honestly my story began the year I quit competitive cheerleading, which was all I knew growing up—cheerleading was quite literally my entire life. I was going through a big life change not having that consistency, and I wasn’t sure what was next or how would I maintain my “health”, etc. So I just dove in headfirst researching EVERYTHING health and nutrition, and I haven’t stopped since. Little did I know, I had way more to learn than I thought. ⁣
⁣
Here I am 6, almost 7 years later thriving on a plant-based lifestyle✨ I’ve been through all sorts of variations of “plant-based” in these 6-7 years before the term became what it has today, but ultimately my diet has been based on the same message: ⁣
∙ increase fruit + veggies⁣
∙ increase whole grains⁣
∙ increase water⁣
∙ decrease ultra-processed foods + meat⁣
⁣
These basic concepts have remained at the core of my belief system. My “why” for making the change in lifestyle was centered around health. YOUR motivation to change doesn’t have to be “health” like mine—maybe you want to save money, improve your fertility, have more energy, be an example for your loved ones, etc. Whatever your “why” is, just know, you can do this!2 months agoDownload

I’ve been working on new business projects, traveling, studying for the RD exam, as well as just overall adjusting to this post-grad life. I’ve decided to hop back on since I miss connecting with you all on my favorite topics + I’m dying to share about my awesome trip to Greece for anyone interested😊 ⁣

For starters, here’s some photos of a birthday dinner my nieces and I made for my step-dad a couple weeks ago. Some of his favorites: salad + brussels sprouts + pasta (not pictured). We made my family’s favorite salad I make weekly, and balsamic glazed brussels sprouts. Salad ingredients:⁣

Lettuce (romaine)⁣
Cucumbers⁣
Red/yellow bell peppers⁣
Navel oranges⁣

Made the most delicious and satisfying BLT using tempeh! I whipped up a quick plant based mayo to add to it, which is funny because I never liked mayo growing up. (Recipe in the comments)⁣

So what is tempeh anyway? Tempeh is made from soy, like tofu, but tempeh is fermented and made with the WHOLE soybean. I like it because it’s more textured and hearty compared to tofu. My favorite way to make tempeh is with the Smoky Tempeh recipe by @frommybowl Promise you this recipe Does. Not. Disappoint!😋⁣4 months agoDownload
